Went for a ride in mid December on Thomas in Santa Cruz. Seems like a long time ago but we finally found the camera. Son loves trains (mostly Thomas) and cars so this was mostly for him. he was pretty excited before our ride...
Maybe big sister was more excited though.But, as you can tell by the photo, Son clamped down. Train was loud with lots of Christmas Carols and stuff and Santa was maybe a little scary.Daughter had a great time though.Afterward we played around the boardwalk. Daughter with Grandma Karen on the old fashioned carousel. But what Son really wanted to do was just play with the Thomas toys.
He did the same thing getting a Santa picture too. We have one of Daughter at 3 doing the same thing.

Alas, it's the last day of the year and I haven't posted 365 photos. Well, here is a bunch, hopefully I can get more up here today with captions and everything. If not, one of my resolutions for 2010 is to stay on top of the Faces of Jackson blog, thanks for your patience.Action Hero Kai.A Tonka truck Kai got for his b-day (that reminds me, we still need to write thank-yous) Remember when the only thing plastic on a Tonka truck was the occasional windshield? Kids used to leave their toys out intentionally because they weighed 50 pounds, oh well times change.Amara's preschool photos, 2009..Miss Sandra, her teacher, is at right. I don't remember all the kids names (i have a hard enough time keeping my own kid's names straight, don't give me any guff.Stuff for the Emotions book due out in 2010...Amara proves once again, that your relatives can look scary in photos...

Kai's first birthday party!! Lots of friends and family came to help Kai celebrate his birthday (which actually was Oct 14th but today was the party) and everybody had a great time. The two best dressed little ladies at the party; Hailey and Amara. Special thanks to Karen Clapes (Hailey, Amara, Trevor, and Kai's grandma) for taking most of the photos in this post!
Lynette was chief organizer and did a great job with activities for the kids in attendance. Below, a session of pin the tail on the donkey. I made it, a train cake complete with coal car. Click any image for a larger version.The coal car becomes the star...I have been to a lot of first birthday parties lately and one thing strikes me about them. You know how people who watch auto racing will never admit to it but hope for a huge accident; it seems everybody hopes the kid celebrating his/her first birthday just dives into the cake and makes a huge mess. Well most of the 'firsties' so far had that kid who very daintily nibbles the cake in front of him/her so there was this tension in the air. Everybody was pulling for Kai to become one with the cake in front of him. So after singing and the candle getting blown out (by big sister,Amara, this time), mom and dad place the coal car in front to Kai. He tentatively touches the new stuff in front of him. This coal car is chocolate cake with chocolate frosting...
..and then Kai jumps into it.....and pleases the crowd. Amara is stoked.

Amara's preschool had a big Halloween celebration and parade on the 30th of October. Below, Amara (the tallest kid in the class), two other Cinderellas, another two princesses and a witch dance in circle.Amara goes to grab another princess to join the dance.Ben and Clara at the preschool.Going on parade. In years, past a game that was on on near Halloween saw a majority of fans dressing up, this year I felt like a dork as only a handful of fans wore costumes. Boo! At least the Sharks won the Avs.Uncle Doug came up to help celebrate Halloween, below is proof that he helped with pumpkin carving.And helped Kai get ready to get candy...And took a nice one with Amara.

Yesterday was the annual Halloween Festival at Santana Row so I took the kids for a third year. Amara got to trick or treat, moving from shop to shop getting candy. There were a LOT of people (mostly moms) with their kids all dressed up for H-day. I love to see all of the costumes. Disney Princesses were all of the rage. Nearly every girl in attendance was dressed as her favorite princess closely followed by Tinkerbell. Amara was her favorite princess, Cinderella, and Kai went as a monkey. You can tell who was excited to go...And who really wasn't into it...

We even made an appearance at Container Store to see Grandma Karen.
It was a really fun day but the cold wind finally got the best of us and we headed home with our pumpkin bucket half full of candy. A fun time, despite teh crowds and the weather.

Patient #1:
A well known mer-princess (name withheld as she is a minor) who, in the act of faux-swimming, suffered a catastrophic form of Armus Outis at the lateral truck. Though the arm was completely severed, the patient kept on smiling.
Patient #2
A stray gray and lavender nameless cat who suffered a most traumatic version of Cranium Twisti-officitus. Another real trooper who, despite it all, continued to smile as well.

Our obligation as care providers was to try and save them, insurance or no. Above the capable operating hand of world class reattachment surgeon, A.M. Jackson along with her "tools of the trade".After a grueling multi-hour surgery, both patients in recovery. Note right arm of princess reattached (and patient still smiling) but heavily bandaged. Cat,patient #2, sits next to patient #1. Questions have been raised about proper care and breathing apparati but assurances were given as to the safety and vitality of Patient #2's recovery.

Reviewer's note: After a seemingly improbably reattachment surgery on the part of both patients, the bandages were removed, and both patients continued to smile. The right arm of the princess, though securely fastened, was left completely immobile, jutting out in a permanent "princess" wave, patient still smiled on. Patient #2 came out worse for wear as the surgery is thought to have caused all of the cat's moving anatomy to fuse together. Patient #2's head was one with its body but now the whole was completely useless. An investigation has been called regarding the surgeon's practices and methods and results are pending.

After note: Word has it that shortly after patient #1 was released from the O.R., her right arm (after so recently being reattached) suffered a case of Princess Waving Wrong-Wayus which caused the appendage to once again become disembodied. Again, an investigation of the operation and aftermath have been called with results pending.

Speaking of going back in the photo archive, here's a fun one from 1998 (+ -) when Lynette and I drove up to Oregon to be a part of Brad (Roxanna's son's) wedding. Here we are with a bunch of Clapes family members on a Hellgate Jet Boat Excursion. Help me out here if you recognize any of these folks.
In the front row (closest to the bow) left to right is (one of Karen's kids), Kimberly, Boyd (son of Roxanna), and Roxanna. Second row left to right; Toni, (another of Karen's kids) Karen (daughter of Roxanna), Debbie and Christopher (on her lap).
Next row is...a family unrelated and unknown.
Next row L 2 R: Harriet Clapes' sister, Harriet Clapes and Roxy Clapes (Lynette's grandmother and grandfather - also Roxanna's mom and dad), Jeff and Lynette.
I don't know anybody else in the rest of the boat and so will move on to the next photo.

I spoke at Fairy Tale Town in Sacramento on Sept 27th. That was fun, but more fun to give a drawing demo to the kids in attendance.
